Sunday 2nd April 2:00PM
Puccini’s heart-breaking opera, Madama Butterfly, with its story of love, longing and betrayal comes to The Vyne Theatre on Sunday 2 April at 2pm.
The inspiration for many Hollywood films and the West End smash-hit Miss Saigon, this world-famous opera follows a young Japanese geisha, Cio-Cio-San, who clings to the belief that her arrangement with an American naval officer, Lieutenant B.F. Pinkerton, is a loving and permanent marriage. In a clash of cultures, hope turns to despair as Cio-Cio-San realises that she has been betrayed, prompting fatal consequences.
Featuring breath-taking arias, the memorable ‘Flower Duet’ and moving ‘Humming Chorus’, Puccini’s score captures the emotions of Cio-Cio-San’s unbridled happiness and hope to her despondency and pain as she succumbs to her fate.
A defining soprano role, Madama Butterfly stars the sensational Albanian singer Ermonela Jaho in the title role, played opposite by Argentinian tenor, Marcelo Puente as Lieutenant B.F. Pinkerton.
